Clidemia hirta — foliar triclopyr on seedlings

Type
chemical
Habitats
wet forest, mesic forest
Cost
Low–moderate.

Summary

Foliar application of triclopyr amine to seedlings and young plants. Complements biocontrol suppression which operates on adult fruiting plants.

Protocol

1. Spray 2% triclopyr amine with marker dye on actively growing foliage. 2. Target subcanopy and forest-edge infestations. 3. Avoid applying during fruiting to prevent spreading viable seed. 4. Coordinate with biocontrol agents — avoid blanket spraying established populations where thrips are active.

Safety

Avoid drift in sensitive forest understory. Many native ferns are triclopyr-sensitive.

Efficacy

Effective on seedlings; less so on established plants where root reserves support resprouting.
