Clidemia hirta — foliar triclopyr on seedlings
- Type
- chemical
- Habitats
- wet forest, mesic forest
- Cost
- Low–moderate.
Summary
Foliar application of triclopyr amine to seedlings and young plants. Complements biocontrol suppression which operates on adult fruiting plants.
Protocol
1. Spray 2% triclopyr amine with marker dye on actively growing foliage.
2. Target subcanopy and forest-edge infestations.
3. Avoid applying during fruiting to prevent spreading viable seed.
4. Coordinate with biocontrol agents — avoid blanket spraying established populations where thrips are active.
Safety
Avoid drift in sensitive forest understory. Many native ferns are triclopyr-sensitive.
Efficacy
Effective on seedlings; less so on established plants where root reserves support resprouting.
